TO THE MANUFACTURER: P L E A S E RECONSIDER YOUR DECISION TO DISCONTINUE MANUFACTURING THIS WONDERFUL MOVIE! IF MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT IT, MORE PEOPLE WOULD BUY IT. IT IS A TRUE CLASSIC IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD. PLEASE READ MY REVIEW...AND OTHERS TOO....WHO LIKED THIS MOVIE. THEY SAY THAT THE "POOR ARE POOREST OF ALL IN SPIRIT." BY KEEPING THIS BOOK IN STOCK, AT A REASONABLE PRICE, YOU WILL HELP KEEP THE SPIRIT UP OF ALL THOSE WHO TREASURE THIS BOOK -- OR WOULD TREASURE IT! IT IS A TRUE CLASSIC....AND EVERYONE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE SEEN IT, KNOWS THSI!!!!!

THIS IS THE T R U E STORY OF A NEW YORK CITY LOTTERY WINNER. One of the true gems of this movie is, in retrospect, the very first opening scenes, which give the credits of this movie, and set the mood. Because, you see, this movie was made BEFORE 9/11....and the opening scenes...which feature VERY close-up views of the World Trade Center Towers, (just as close-up as the tragic ones years later...but happily without people hanging out the windows)....are a nostalgic and somehow very hopeful highlight, all in themselves....

Frank Pesce lives with his parents and his brother, who is studying to become a police officer. Mr. Pesce, senior, (DANNY AIELLO), is an often-losing gambler, but still is a wonderful father to his two sons. Frank Pesche,(ANTHONY LAPAGLIA) -- gifted with being inordinately lucky, throughout his young life -- buys a lottery ticket. It wins -- but the mob wants it! How the ticket almost goes to the mob....and especially, how it LEAVES the mob, forever -- is a tale of suspense, delight, close-knit family vibes, humour, and the ingenuity of "everyday" people.

Playing the part of the lottery-winner's brother, (and playing it very convincingly and well, I might add), is the ACTUAL Lottery Winner himself! Yes, lottery winner FRANK PESCE plays his own brother in this film -- and, seeing it, one hopes that he also played other roles, as well, (did he?). He's not only now very rich -- but also very handsome, and a pretty good actor, too!

All in all, this very TRUE, "feel-good" story of New York City is a delight to anyone with hope in his or her heart. If hope does not abide within your heart -- see this movie and hope, (and love of family and laughter), will definitely begin to grow there, ready to be nurtured and turned into great things in YOUR OWN life!

You can easily detect that everyone, in front of and also behind the scenes, had a great time in making this movie. The script flows naturally, and the acting is superb. So are the set designs, costumes, directing, camera angles and uplifting background music.
Yes, the people who made this movie had a "ball" making it. And so will you, when you see it! : )

Movie Review: Bud Lake??
Summary: 5 Stars

What can I add to all the glorious reviews this film has received? It is such a sweet, warm-hearted movie. As an Italian-American New Yorker, specifically one from Queens who was a youth during the 70's, I can so relate to this picture. Especially having an older brother too! It's definitely a cross between Goodfellas and It's A Wonderful Life. For the reviewer who wrote that the lead character is nothing like Jimmy Stewart from that movie, well of course he isn't. Nobody can be that innocent in 50 years time. Society grows up, becomes a little more cynical, more been-there done-that. So it's more of an updated version.

The narration throughout the movie from Frank Pesce Jr. is perfect. My favorite scene? When they go to the insurance company, and Pesce Jr. says "we look like a nice family going to pick up a check." Pesce Sr. says, "we look like a pack of wild dogs!" Absolutely priceless. Also the scene at the draft board. The scene at the end (everyone knows which one) makes my cry every time I watch it.

I had the fortune of meeting Lainie Kazan a few years back at Tony n' Tina's Wedding in New York. I shouted out how much I loved 29th Street, she heard me and came back to thank me. She said she loved being in that movie; and this was before she made My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

Although it wasn't filmed in New York, use of some landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge add a nice sense of being in NY. I recommend this movie to anyone with an ounce of Italian blood in them, or anyone else who just enjoys a very special feel-good movie. It's an old cliche, but you'll laugh you'll cry. And you'll wish you were a part of their family.

Movie Review: 29TH STREET IS TERRIFIC! A CLASSIC! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Summary: 5 Stars

"29th Street" is a terrific movie! This movie has a little of everything in it. Although there is an underlying Christmas theme to this film, it is enjoyable to watch any time of the year. A combination of "It's A Wonderful Life" and "Goodfellas", this movie is based on a true story of Frank Pesce (played by Anthony LaPaglia), the first winner of the New York State Lottery. The story back tracks through his life to explain how he has been lucky his whole life, which includes some hillarious scenes. I have watched "29th Street" over and over again and never tire of it. If you want to be entertained and watch a movie that will leave you with a good feeling, this is the film for you! By the way, the real Frank Pesce is in the movie...he plays the Brother Vito, who is a police officer.

Movie Review: BEST MOVIE, EVER!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, have I been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD. This is one of my all-time favorite movies. The dynamics of the family and the values in this movie are what America is made of.

This movie is will make you laugh and cry over and over again. Some people are just born lucky. And sometimes luck isn't all that it is cracked up to be. The moral of the story: It's all about family.

The stereotypes of Italian families aside, Danny Aiello, Anthony Lapaglia, Laine Kazan, and the writer Frank Pesce do an amazing job of telling a family story. I watch this movie every Christmas and sometimes in-between. And I ball like a little girl every time I see the ending...

Movie Review: Sweet Movie Based on a True Story
Summary: 5 Stars

29th Street is a sweet movie that is great to watch during the holidays since so much of it is set at Christmas time and it has a nice message. If it wasn't for the very raw language this could almost be a family film but then if the language was cleaned up it would not be a realistic story of this man and his life. This is one of the handful of movies where the real life hero plays a smaller part in the film (in this case Frank plays his policeman brother). The characters argue, curse and shout but their love for each other shines through painting an endearing picture of blue collar New Yorkers in the 1970's. A film that deserves to be more well known than it is.
