Movie Review: Good movie in Hi Def

I first saw this movie in the 90's when it came out, but had forgotten just how really good it is. Bruce Willis shows that, when he gets away from the "Die Hard" movies, he's a very good actor. And Madeline Stowe and Brad Pitt also put in fine performances. The plot twists and turns to a surprise ending. Highly recommended, even for those who don't normally like sci-fi.Movie Review: Simply the best version you can get

Writer/director Terry Gilliam's output has been uneven,sometimes he has a winner like "Time Bandits" or "The Fisher King" and other times the results can be wildly uneven like "Brazil"- a film I found wildly confusing or "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" which I found incomphrensible despite the efforts of Johnny Depp and Benicio DelToro. But this sci-fier bears none of those faults for I was completely engrossed in what was happening in the story. It also boasts great performances from Bruce Willis and an Oscar nominated one from Brad Pitt as a schizophrenic patient. I don't want to reveal too much of the plot but if you're into time travel movies--this ones for you. I will probably purchase this in HD DVD since it is so ridiculously so low that it makes the price in Blu-ray to be a crime!! By the way, this film is based or inspired by the French film, "La Jetee".Movie Review: Great movie, lackluster HD DVD.

I've always loved the movie, and while it looks great in HD, it's very reminiscent of the first few DVDs that came out. It has quite a few defects just during normal playback, and the additional content is exactly the same as it is on the DVD... which looked bad on the original, and looks TERRIBLE now.
Unfortunately, there aren't many HD DVDs to choose from yet, but having your expectations set at a reasonable level can't hurt. :/ I suspect this one will be like the first Tron DVD release, and coming out a ways down the road (assuming the format survives) to compare against newer releases.
